You can extend or reduce a volume group by adding or removing physical volumes. LVM is short for Logical Volume Management, its included in Ubuntu.
LVM Logical Volume Manager is a great piece of software which allow you to deal with Logical Volumes. Ubuntu will see these like separate drives. The key is that the LVM binaries arent installed into the image, so the installer wont detect the presence of. You can make partitions on it called Logical Volumes or LVs. LVM stands for Logical Volume Manager or Logical Volume Management.
